Analysis

Life's too Short

  • Director- Ricky Gevais & Stephen Merchant
  • Date- 2011
This is a fake documentry based on the life of Warwick Davis. there is no narrator or questions being asked by the camera man like the other documentarys. but lots of celebrity quests. both directors are in the program throughout. this documentary involves real people but the storty is made up for you entertainment and is also a comedy documentary.

Analysis

Educating Essex

  • Director :- David Clews
  • Date :-2011
Educating Essex explored what really happens behind the school gates. Following a group of GCSE students as it looks at all aspects of teenage life within a school environment.

The show shows how obedient and disobedient the pupils can be and how much lack of respect some student have towards their teachers.

Most of the footage is from cameras placed around the school, there is no interviewer or camera crew for these parts of the program but is the narrator which has been added in during the editing of the program.

Parts of the show were filmed like an interview with the teacher in front of the camera and the camera man asking the questions.

There is a wide range of different shot depending on where the cameras are placed. Some are on the ceiling looking down on to the pupils and staff and others are level with the

Analysis

Biggie & Tupac

  • Director- Nick Broomfield
  • Date- 2002
The location of the documentary was set in Brooklyn where both Biggie and Tupac lived. this shows an area of poverty and you can tell it is quite a rough place to live. You can tell by the appearance of the people interviewed that they don't take much pride in the way they look. you can tell this just by looking at the clothes they wear.
The way broomfield films the documentary is the same as lots of others of the same type. he spends most of his time behind the camera. The person who he is interviewing will have the whole shot to themselves. although in some parts of the film broomfield is included in the shots or a shot of him by himself is used as he tells the audience what is happening or answers questions.

Analysis of my As work

Tuesday 16 October 2012

Brief

Which brief are you pursuing?
During the course of the year i will be creating  an extract from an original documentary TV programme. this will last approximately five minutes. i will also be creating;

  •  a double-page spread from a listings magazine focused on the documentary

  •  a newspaper advertisement for the documentary.
Identify if this is an individual or group project?
This will be and individual project and all the work will be done by myself although, i will be using pupils and teachers around the school as my actors

Write a brief summary of your concept for the main task:
The concept for my main task is to look at how different pupils engage in school life and their opinions, also i will look at the views of a teacher and there view on teaching disengaged pupils and how they find working in a school.

List any ideas for locations (mise-en-scène):
  • Heworth Grange Comp
  • Out of school
  • Home
  • Journey to school
List any ideas for costume and props:
As my documentary is set in a school the main costume will be school uniform. Any filming outside of school times will be in normal everyday clothes.

Outline your ideas for each ancillary task:
For my first anccillary task i will create a double page spread in a populat tv magazine. i will let the readers know what the documentry is about aand what to expect.
For my second ancillary task i will produce a newspaper advert for my documentary

(EVALUATION) Looking back at your preliminary task, what have you learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

(EVALUATION) What have you learnt about new technologies from the process of creating this product?

Throughout the process of creating ‘KBT’ music magazine I have learnt how to use a digital camera, Photoshop and how to create a blog. in the process of taking pictures I used a tripod, this helped to keep the pictures in level and in focus. I learnt more stuff about Photoshop including the mask toot for cutting out pictures perfectly. When cutting out photos I have learnt that it is easier if they are taken with a blank background. In Photoshop I also learnt how change a photos contrast, un blur and change the brightness. To cut out the images around the hair I used to making tool. This helped a lot as it cuts out all the tricky bits around the hair.

Using the blog to present my work has allowed me to keep on track with my work and progress. The Blog is available for people from all over the world to see and it has allowed my to receive constructive criticism which has led to me making changes so my end product will be the best it can.

(EVALUATION) Who would be the target audience for your media prduct?

My target Audience is both men and women aged between 16-25

(EVALUATION) What kind of media institution might distribute your product and why?

(EVALUATION) In what way does your media product use, develop or chalange forms and conventions of real media products.

I have stuck to only including one picture on my front cover, another on my contents page and another on my first page of my article. many top selling magazines use this technique on some of there pages. E.g 'Q', 'XXL' and 'Vibe'. using this on my front cover makes it look more organised. In the hooks i have make the main words about what is included stand out. this will catch the readers eye and make them read on. i have stuck to a house style throughout my magazine to make it look more professional.
